Lead people, supervise teams, manage change and run projects.

Change Management is a short course for anyone who leads change or lives through it at work: team leaders, supervisors, business owners and the people everyone turns to when something new arrives.

Over seven lessons you'll learn to prepare a change strategy, build a change team, win people's support, use the Prosci ADKAR Model, consult within Australian law, plan and roll out a change, and make it stick. One fictional business, Harbourline Logistics, runs through every lesson so you can see each tool in action.

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain why change needs to be managed and identify the steps and components of a change strategy
  • identify the roles, qualities and membership of an effective change team and use a stakeholder analysis to plan support
  • apply WIIFM thinking, SWOT analysis, honest communication and appreciative inquiry to build people's support for a change
  • explain the five elements of the Prosci ADKAR Model and use it to find where a person is stuck in a change and how to help
  • identify when Australian workplace and work health and safety laws require consultation about change, and distinguish these legal duties from good practice
  • develop the key parts of a change management plan and a communication plan, and use practical tools to roll out a change and respond to concerns
  • apply status meetings, measurement, recognition, resilience and flexibility to keep a change on track and make it stick

What's included: 7 narrated video lessons with captions, interactive drag-and-drop activities and practice checks, a participant book (PDF) to keep, an online final quiz (marked automatically, 3 attempts, 80% to pass) and a Certificate of Completion.

Time: about 2 hours, including the activities and the final quiz (allow longer if English is your second language or you replay lessons). Study online at your own pace through ASTC Online.

Leadership and Influence is a practical short course from Australian Salesmasters Training Co (ASTC), delivered on ASTC Online. It's for team leaders, supervisors, small-business owners, project leads and anyone who wants to lead people well, with or without a title.

You'll learn what leadership is, how thinking about it has changed, and how to adapt your style to each person using situational leadership. You'll rate yourself against Kouzes and Posner's five practices and build a personal action plan.

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain what leadership is, how it differs from holding a position, and the characteristics people look for in a leader
  • describe the Great Man and trait approaches and why they were criticised, and explain transformational leadership
  • apply Hersey and Blanchard's situational leadership model by matching telling, selling, participating or delegating to a person's readiness for a task
  • rate your leadership against Kouzes and Posner's five practices and build a personal action plan with SMART goals
  • model the way by example and influence others ethically by building trust, using evidence, listening and finding shared benefit
  • develop and communicate a shared vision, and challenge the process by improving and innovating with evidence and a clear case for change
  • build trust and mutual respect, help people grow, and recognise and celebrate contributions fairly

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain what 360 degree feedback is, how the Johari window shows its value, and what it can and can't do
  • design clear, relevant 360 questions, a fair rating scale and useful open-comment prompts
  • choose suitable raters and plan, brief and run a fair 360 process from pilot to evaluation
