Recognising and Reporting Abuse and Neglect in Aged Care and Disability is a practical short course from Australian Salesmasters Training Co (ASTC), delivered on ASTC Online. It's for aged care and disability support workers in Australia, whether you work in a care home, in people's homes or in the community.

You'll learn the types of abuse and neglect, how to recognise warning signs, your first steps when you're worried, how reporting works under the Serious Incident Response Scheme in aged care and under the NDIS, and how to support the person and yourself afterwards.

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain the main types of abuse and neglect in aged care and disability support, including unreasonable use of restrictive practices and stealing
  • recognise patterns of signs that may point to abuse, neglect or elder abuse, without jumping to conclusions
  • apply the first steps when you suspect or are told about abuse or neglect: make the person safe, call 000 if needed, tell your supervisor, record the facts, preserve evidence and support the person
  • explain the Serious Incident Response Scheme under the Aged Care Act 2024, including the eight incident types, Priority 1 and Priority 2 timeframes and whistleblower protections
  • explain NDIS reportable incidents, the notification timeframes and your duty to tell your provider promptly
  • support the person's safety, dignity and choices after abuse or neglect, look after your own wellbeing, and use the right help lines

What's included: 6 narrated video lessons with captions, interactive drag-and-drop activities and practice checks, a participant book (PDF) to keep, an online final quiz (marked automatically, 3 attempts, 80% to pass) and a Certificate of Completion.

Infection Prevention and Control Basics is a short course from Australian Salesmasters Training Co (ASTC), delivered on ASTC Online. It's for people who work in aged care, disability support, childcare, cleaning and hospitality in Australia, and anyone else who wants to understand how infections spread and how everyday habits stop them.

This is an awareness course. It doesn't replace your employer's infection control training, the National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) online modules if your workplace uses them, or food safety training your role requires. It is general information, not medical advice.

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain the six links in the chain of infection, the main ways germs travel, and how standard precautions break the chain
  • apply the 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene, choose between hand rub and soap and water, and use gloves without skipping hand hygiene
  • apply respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, choose PPE to suit the task, and put on and take off PPE in the right order
  • explain the difference between cleaning and disinfection, and handle spills, waste, sharps and linen safely
  • identify contact, droplet and airborne precautions, recognise an outbreak, and describe your role in an outbreak response
  • explain when to stay home from work, where to find vaccination information, and the food safety basics that stop infections spreading

Person-Centred Care and Dignity is a non-accredited short course from Australian Salesmasters Training Co (ASTC), delivered on ASTC Online. It's for support workers and care workers in Australian aged care and disability services, whether you work in people's homes, in residential care or in community programs.

The course is about seeing and supporting the person, not just the tasks. It covers what person-centred care means, people's rights in aged care and the NDIS, dignity of risk and supported decision-making, choice and communication, cultural safety, privacy and dignity in personal care, and how to raise concerns and support complaints.

By the end you will be able to:

  • explain what person-centred care is, its core principles, and how it differs from task-focused care
  • explain the Statement of Rights under the Aged Care Act 2024, Standard 1 of the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, NDIS principles and the NDIS Code of Conduct, and what they mean on shift
  • apply dignity of risk and supported decision-making so that people can make their own choices, including choices that involve some risk
  • support choice and control in daily routines, get to know each person's life story, and communicate in the way that works for them, including with interpreters
  • support cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and LGBTIQ+ older people by asking, not assuming, and knowing where to learn more
  • protect privacy and dignity during personal care, and raise concerns and support complaints through the right pathways, including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission and the NDIS Commission
