Everyday office, admin and digital skills.

Administrative Support is a practical short course for anyone who keeps a workplace running: office and admin staff, receptionists, executive and personal assistants, coordinators, and anyone whose job involves email, schedules, meetings and people.

It covers getting organised, managing time and priorities, meetings, events, travel and small projects, clear communication, email and hybrid work, handling personal information, and working well with others. The examples are Australian and the law was checked against official sources in October 2026. General tools such as shared drives, shared calendars and cloud office apps are described in general terms, so the skills work whatever software your workplace uses.

By the end you will be able to:

  • apply simple systems to process email, organise digital files and handle phone messages so nothing important is missed
  • apply a task list, prioritising techniques and SMART goals to plan your day and deliver work on time
  • plan effective meetings, larger events, business travel and small projects using simple checklists and clear actions
  • apply active listening, effective questioning, confident speaking, and positive body language and tone in workplace conversations
  • apply email and chat etiquette, manage shared calendars, and work safely and effectively in a hybrid workplace
  • identify personal information and apply Privacy Act basics, everyday privacy habits and scam checks to protect it
  • apply assertiveness, conflict and consensus skills, work effectively with your manager, raise concerns safely and look after your wellbeing

What's included: 7 narrated video lessons with captions, interactive drag-and-drop activities and practice checks, a participant book (PDF) to keep, an online final quiz (marked automatically, 3 attempts, 80% to pass) and a Certificate of Completion.

Time: about 2 hours, including the activities and the final quiz (allow longer if English is your second language or you replay lessons). Study online at your own pace through ASTC Online.
